Doing something about it

Making sure the online lives of our customers, employees, and community are safe and secure is the purpose of cybersecurity month.  Over the next four weeks, we will bring you relevant information on cybersecurity.  Below is the line-up of topics you can look forward to.

Week 1: October 2 – Disasters are Prime Time for Cyber Criminals. How to Think Ahead.

America is still reeling under the strain of recovering from epic hurricane disasters. These kinds of tragic events can bring out the worst qualities in cyber hackers. There are simple and immediate steps both the public and businesses can take to prevent falling victim to cybercrime.

Week 2:  October 9 – Cybersecurity in the Workplace.  How Safe Are You?

When it comes to cybersecurity in the workplace, you’re as safe as your weakest link. Complacency and lack of awareness are hackers’ best friends. We’ll encourage businesses to ‘reboot’ by taking a fresh look at how to beef up their defenses against cybercrime and tighten those weak links.

Week 3:  October 16 – Tomorrow’s Internet – A lot of ‘Little Things’ That Can Add Up to Big Trouble.

Cybercriminals love ‘smart’ connected devices like cars, thermostats, webcams, baby monitors, refrigerators—even guns. The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) offers amazing smart technology for both future and business use. But, it’s also a security challenge and still not well understood by most people.

Week 4: October 23 – Why Choose a Career in Cyber Security?  The Internet Needs You!

According to a study by the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, by 2022 there will be a shortage of 1.8 million information security workers. Considering the growth in connected technology and the vast number of available cybersecurity positions we encourage students and other job seekers to explore careers in cybersecurity.

Watch for our blogs and emails throughout October and increase your understanding of cybersecurity.
